WASTES THAT GENERATE ELECTRICITY
In the city of Monterrey, Nuevo León, the garbage generated by its inhabitants is converted into electricity.
The 4 thousand 500 daily tons of waste coming from Monterrey and nearby cities, arrive at the Simeprode sanitary landfill and are deposited in a container that releases the biogas produced by them, captures it and takes it through special pipes to a plant of energy generation while the waste is compacted and covered with a layer of earth.
The extracted biogas passes through the turbines that generate the electrical energy; and in this way around 400 thousand megawatts / hour are produced, which are used to power the electricity supply in public lighting, of seven municipalities in the metropolitan area, lines 1 and 2 of the Metrorrey Collective Transport System, the Palacio de Government, the state DIF and the general offices of Agua y Drenaje de Monterrey.
